Over the past 15 to 20 years, the market size of each industry has changed significantly. For example, the consumer internet (including digital advertising) market was second in size in 2019 , but in 2005 it was ranked 34th, out of the top 10. Looking at all 57 industries, all of the industries that achieved a top 10 market size in 2019 were ranked 10th or lower in 2005 , roughly 15 years ago .

 

The industries expected to see future market growth include e - commerce, AI , cloud services, EVs , digital advertising, and semiconductors . E- commerce is expected to reach a maximum of $ 40 trillion by 2040 , with the increase in user base in emerging countries (demographic bonus) being a major growth driver rather than the influence of developed countries (automation of sales and logistics).

 

The emergence of generative AI has ushered in a new era of AI that will continue beyond 2025. However, the risk of deep fakes and the spread of misinformation is rapidly increasing, making preparations for disinformation security an urgent issue . Learning models continue to evolve, and AI is gaining initiative, moving away from passive prompting and becoming more goal-directed. Applications are expanding to include industry-specific applications, combined operations, and interactions .

 

The spread of AI requires both high computing power and power saving, but the evolution of computing models has reached its limits, and expectations are high for the practical application of completely different concepts such as quantum computers and optical computers . However , quantum computers are certain to be able to break existing asymmetric cryptography, and all confidential information will have to be shifted to post-quantum cryptography by around 2030 .

 

Technological advances thus simultaneously create industries that benefit and industries that are exposed to risk. Therefore, maintaining a competitive advantage requires not only capitalizing on the benefits but also investing early on in the negative aspects.
