Generative AI , which took the digital realm by storm in 2023 , has begun to make inroads into the real world since 2024. Signs of this trend are evident in startup investments, with EvolutionaryScale ( which generates 3D structures of proteins that decompose microplastics) and Waabi ( which generates road condition scenarios to train self-driving vehicles) raising large amounts of capital.
Humanoids are not a new field, and Boston Dynamic 's Atlas demonstrated the evolution of sensors and actuators, but it did not offer any practical application. Ten years later, Figure 02 , a humanoid equipped with generative AI , was born, reaching a level where it could converse with humans in natural language, think for itself about what to do, and act autonomously without any prior programming.
One of the driving forces behind the development of humanoids is the decline in the working population in developed countries, and they are expected to serve as an alternative labor force.
While generative AI is being proven to increase the productivity of white-collar workers, humanoids can replace any physical task, from blue-collar workers in manufacturing, logistics, and construction to housework.
Since 95% of the cost of the current Humanoid robot is made up of actuators and other moving parts, faithfully mimicking the movements of the human body was a top priority in its development. The addition of generative AI came at an opportune time when highly accurate movements became possible , and Humanoid has rapidly grown to the point where it can autonomously perform highly difficult movements.
