In the United States, sluggish stock prices and inflation are causing a wave of mass layoffs, especially among tech companies. While venture capital investment is also slowing, in the long term, AI is expected to play an active role as an alternative labor force in preparation for economic recovery.

Although there is a slight slowdown in Q1 2022 and deal sizes are becoming smaller, early-stage investment remains active, particularly among traditional VCs. Healthcare, Fintech, and Retail Tech are the top three areas, with Fintech being the only one to see investment growth in Q1 2022, due to the lack of investors withdrawing from the middle stage and beyond. In the later stages, areas that are being put to practical use, such as no-code development, open source, the metaverse, and cybersecurity, and in the early stages, biotechnology are attracting investment.

The fields of pattern recognition and machine learning are growing rapidly, and AI image recognition capabilities are reaching human levels. With the emergence of GANs, image generation has also reached a level that humans cannot distinguish, but common sense reasoning is not practically accurate. In the field of autonomous driving, there is a technological shift from Lidar (laser) to image recognition, and image recognition is also spreading to automatic property insurance assessments.

AI is now entering areas that were previously untouched due to profitability issues (such as the development of rare drugs), and there are moves to create new markets in a short period of time and at low cost. Its processing capabilities exceed those of humans, making real-time and preventative measures possible in the cybersecurity field as well.

Robotics, where AI processing results have the greatest impact, has the potential to reach markets that humans have not been able to explore.
