Does generative AI have personality?
There has been an increase in cases where students have submitted assignments that are too similar in content, and upon investigation, it has been discovered that generative AI was used. Some have taken this phenomenon to mean that the spread of generative AI risks undermining diversity of thought and leading to a lack of individuality, but this is a bit premature.
Unlike conventional systems that output the same results regardless of who uses them, generative AI allows human individuality to be expressed in the prompts entered, and the more multimodal the input, such as photos and videos, the more unique the results generated, creating more individuality.
Generative AI can provide the correct answer, but that is also possible with conventional systems. The greatest innovation lies in producing diverse results without a correct answer. However, regulations have not kept up with the evolution of technology, and there is an urgent need to establish "guardrails" such as compliance, common sense, and ethics.
