A profitable industry that no one is doing
This is agriculture. Currently, there is an area of abandoned farmland in Japan larger than Yamanashi Prefecture. The number of people working in agriculture has halved over the past 20 years, the average age is approaching 70, and 70% of farmers have no successors. By 2050, production capacity is expected to fall to 40% of the current level, and demand will also fall to 70% due to the declining population, but it is predicted that the remaining 30% of demand will not be met. Japan is now at a crossroads: will it face security issues through further dependence on overseas markets, or will it seize the market opportunity and pave the way for precision agriculture and autonomous agriculture using digital technology?
