Can generative AI create real products?
While it may seem possible to create real products from generative AI, there's a major hurdle: "simulation." Digital content like images and videos can be freely generated, ignoring the laws of physics and the difficulty of manufacturing, but real product designs must be "actually manufacturable." Simulation is the process of verifying this in advance, and generative design can simultaneously generate multiple pre-verified designs without the need to manufacture prototypes. While generative AI generates designs freely based on past learning, making output control difficult, generative design uses algorithms based on the laws of nature and biological growth mechanisms to create real products that meet industrial product requirements, such as strength and size. The two technologies are beginning to collaborate, leveraging each other's strengths, and they have the potential to become powerful tools in Industry 5.0.
